I firmly believe that in order to protect America we must go on the offense against radicals, extremists, murderers in order to protect not only ourselves, but our allies. And I also realize that we're involved in an ideological struggle, that these murderers, these radicals, these extremists have got a point of view. If you want to find out what their point of view is about, look what happened in Afghanistan under the brutal relationship of the Taliban and al Qaeda. On the one hand, if you're a woman and spoke out, or a woman and tried to advance, you were suppressed, in brutal fashion sometimes. And in the meantime, an enemy that hates America, plotted and planned. And so, look, I understand some people are may not agree with the decisions I make. But what the American people need to know, I'm making them based upon what's best for this country.
I guess we have to take his word for it, since his explanation of the Taliban and al Qaeda lacked... understandability. Crawford, Texas, May 21, 2007

DUBYA: I want to thank and welcome Geno Auriuma. Is that right?
MR. AURIEMMA: Auriemma.
DUBYA: Auriemma. Okay, fine. I've never been too good in English. But he's a heck of a coach, however he says his name.

If you're like me, you won't remember everything you did here. That can be a good thing.

I loved history, and pursued a diversified course of study. I like to think of it as the academic road less traveled. For example, I took a class that studied Japanese Haiku. Haiku, for the uninitiated, is a 15th century form of poetry, each poem having 17 syllables. Haiku is fully understood only by the Zen masters. As I recall, one of my academic advisers was worried about my selection of such a specialized course. He said I should focus on English. I still hear that quite often. But my critics don't realize I don't make verbal gaffes. I'm speaking in the perfect forms and rhythms of ancient Haiku.
About as pained an attempt at pseudo-intelligent comedy as I've seen in some time (not to mention that it is factually inaccurate), Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, May 21, 2001
