[Mississippi Governor] Haley [Barbour] married well, and so did I. I don't know about you, Haley, but my wife has become quite a one-liner, and she can deliver those one-liners.

You see, in 1950, there was 15 workers paying into the system for every beneficiary — 16 workers for every beneficiary. Today there is 3.3 workers, fewer of you all paying for people like me, who are going to live longer and have been promised greater benefits.

I'm also running [for re-election] because I want to keep us — I want to enable us to be the innovative society that we are.

What the country needs is a leader who speaks clearly.

I also understand that many problems can be only solved by love. Many problems can only be solved when a decent citizen takes time out of their lives and says, how can I help you, brother? What can I do to make your life better? The job of the President is to understand the proper relationship between the government and the strength of the country.

We ended the rule of one of history's worst tyrants, and in so doing we not only freed the American people, we made our own people more secure.

I want to thank Al Gonzales. He's "mi abogado". He's been my lawyer, he's been — served on the — as Secretary of State in Texas. He's served on the U.S. — or the Texas Supreme Court. He and his able staff work long hours to really find the best possible nominees for the bench. And I want to — I appreciate Al's leadership, and I appreciate those who work with Al on behalf of the White House for their long hours.
